Built from recovery work, not theory

Roseey 4×4 Recovery grew from years of helping recover stuck vehicles and learning what works when a track, mud hole or steep recovery does not give you an easy anchor point.

Roseey 4x4 Recovery team coordinating an off road recovery

The idea behind the main recovery rig came after using a GQ wagon for recoveries and seeing how much force deep mud can put through a vehicle and its recovery gear. In the worst bogged situations, pulling straight ahead is not always enough. Sometimes the vehicle needs lift as well as pull, and the best anchor is not always where you need it.

That thinking led to RUBEEY: a purpose-built 1995 GQ Patrol ute with a rear A frame and independent hydraulic winch setup. The goal was simple: bring the high anchor point to the recovery instead of hoping the bush provides one.

RUBEEY

The centrepiece of the business is a 1995 GQ Patrol ute with a custom paint job, custom rear tray and A frame, TB45 engine from a GU Patrol, Haltech 750 ECU, Powertune dashboard, GQ manual transmission, ARB air lockers front and rear, and RCV axles.

The front winch is a Gigglepin GP100 two speed setup with twin 6hp Warn motors and 50m of rope. The rear recovery system uses a Runva 20,000lb hydraulic winch with 48m of 14mm steel cable, driven by an independent petrol motor and hydraulic pump.

That independent setup means the vehicle does not need to sit running while the rear winch is working. The rig can be anchored, switched off, and operated from a safer position with a wireless remote where the job allows.
